Heating, Cooling, and Electrical Work Built for Palo Alto Homes
Palo Alto has been building houses since the 1890s, and it kept most of them. A shingled home in Professorville, a mid-century Eichler in Greenmeadow, and a house rebuilt from the ground up last year can sit within a few minutes of each other. Each one needs a different plan. The weather is rarely the hard part here. The house itself decides almost everything.
In Professorville, Old Palo Alto, and Crescent Park, many homes went up long before air conditioning was part of the plan. Where ducts exist, they were often added decades later and fitted into whatever room the crawl space or attic allowed. These homes also have plaster walls and original details worth protecting. We usually compare two routes: a ductless system that needs only a small line set per room, or a compact ducted unit tucked into the attic. In the Eichler tracts of Greenmeadow and Fairmeadow there is no attic at all, so each room gets its own indoor unit and its own sizing.
Newer and fully remodeled homes raise a different question. They tend to be larger, with a second story, an ADU in the back, and one or two EV chargers in the garage. That calls for zoning, so the upstairs and downstairs stop fighting over one thermostat, and for an honest count of the electrical load. Because we hold both licenses, that count happens before any equipment is chosen. In most homes the existing panel turns out to be enough, and you get that answer in writing at the free estimate.

Why Homeowners Choose Ozone Service
Rebates & Incentives for Bay Area Homeowners
Ozone Service has secured over $500,000 in rebates in the past 6 months. We help Bay Area homeowners reduce the cost of upgrading to energy-efficient heating and cooling systems. Depending on your location, utility provider, and equipment selected, you may qualify for valuable rebates and financing programs. We handle the documentation, and most contractors don't.
Free Estimates & Free Diagnostics
No trip fee. No diagnostic charge. We assess the full system, identify the problem, and hand you a written scope and price before any work begins. After fixing a compressor for one of our clients, Tim checked the rest of the system at no extra charge to rule out downstream issues. That's not exceptional, that's how we work.
EPA 608 Certified & BBB Accredited
Handling refrigerant the right way matters. Our EPA 608 certified technicians follow strict standards for refrigerant recovery, leak prevention, and system charging, helping protect the environment while keeping your HVAC system efficient and reliable. BBB Accreditation means there's a paper trail and accountability if anything falls short.
HVAC + Electrical Under One Roof
Heat pump installations require both HVAC and electrical work. Because Ozone Service is licensed in both trades, we provide complete in-house service from start to finish, with no need to coordinate multiple contractors. From equipment installation and wiring to permits and final testing, everything is handled under one roof for a smoother, faster project.
Written Warranty on Every Job
HVAC installation labor is covered for 3 years and can extend up to 12 years with annual maintenance. Electrical work carries a 1-year labor warranty, and equipment is covered by its manufacturer. One team, one contract, everything in writing.
24/7 Emergency HVAC & Electrical Service
AC failed? Furnace out on a cold weekend? Electrical issue that can’t wait? Our team takes calls 24/7 with same-day service in most cases. Same technicians, same quality, any time of day.

Rebates and Incentives for Palo Alto Homeowners
Rebates work differently in Palo Alto than in the cities around it. The city runs its own utility, City of Palo Alto Utilities, which supplies both electricity and gas. The large statewide program you may have read about is tied to PG&E service, so it does not cover Palo Alto addresses.
The city fills that gap with its own rebates. They are aimed at homeowners who replace gas heating or a gas water heater with a heat pump, and some of the related permit and electrical costs can qualify as well.
Timing matters more here than anywhere else we work. The city expects the application before the work begins, not after. Call us first, and we will confirm what your project qualifies for, prepare the documents, and schedule the installation around the approval.

Called OZONE late Friday night and had Andrew out by 8am Saturday. He diagnosed the failed starting component quickly, had the part on the truck, and had the system running and verified cold before he left. On time, no upselling on a old unit, one-year warranty on the repair. Exactly what you want from a service call. Highly recommend.Posted on Google![]()

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a heat pump heat a house in Palo Alto without a gas furnace?
Yes, it can. Palo Alto winters are mild, and a correctly sized heat pump keeps its full heating capacity well below the temperatures the city normally sees. No backup furnace is needed, and the same system cools the house in summer.
Do I have to remove my gas line to install a heat pump?
No, you do not. A heat pump replaces the furnace, and the gas line can stay in place for a stove, a dryer, or a water heater. Some rebates do depend on which gas appliances are replaced, so tell us what you plan to keep and we will check how it affects your options.
Are heat pumps too loud for a small lot with close neighbors?
No, a modern heat pump is not loud when it is placed correctly. Variable-speed units run at low speed most of the time and are much quieter than older air conditioners. We pick the location during the estimate, away from bedroom windows and the property line, and check the sound rating before the unit is ordered.
Can my heating and cooling system filter wildfire smoke?
Yes, it can, if it has ducts and the right filter. A central system with a high-efficiency filter pulls fine smoke particles out of the air each time the fan runs, which helps on days when you have to keep the windows closed. The filter has to match what your blower can handle, so we check airflow before upgrading it. Ductless units have only basic filters, and in those homes we usually suggest a separate air cleaner for smoke season.
